NY Pepper Spray Laws

The state of New York has very strict laws regarding the shipment of chemical sprays (pepper sprays and Mace). Oddly enough, you can carry it, but we can’t ship it. Per the law, we cannot ship chemical sprays into or within the state. If you wish to purchase a chemical spray and you live in the state of NY, please ship your order to a neighboring state (PA, NJ, CT, MA or VT) and we will be happy to fulfill your order. If the shipping address is within NY state and the order contains a chemical spray, we will refund the amount of the chemical spray, and ship any remaining items. We apologize for the inconvenience, but we have to abide by the law.

  1. Hello I came across your table at Safeshoot in Kingston NY. I took your card in hopes that I could order pepper spray but I see it can’t be mailed to NY. I’ve heard Safeshoot will be having another gun show in the near future, will you be there? I was hoping to purchase the lipstick pepper spray. Thanks!

    1. Hi Gail, and thanks for your question. To LEGALLY sell pepper spray in NY, it must be sold face-to-face by a licensed firearms dealer or a pharmacy. In addition, the requirement says the purchaser must fill out a form similar to buying a shotgun, and purchasers are limited to two pepper sprays per purchase.

Here’s the relevant portion of the statute:
      (b) Before delivering a self-defense spray device to any person, the licensed or authorized dealer shall require proof of age and a sworn statement on a form approved by the superintendent of state police that such person has not been convicted of a felony or any crime involving an assault. Such forms shall be forwarded to the division of state police at such intervals as directed by the superintendent of state police. Absent any such direction the forms shall be maintained on the premises of the vendor and shall be open at all reasonable hours for inspection by any peace officer or police officer, acting pursuant to his or her special duties. No more than two self-defense spray devices may be sold at any one time to a single purchaser.

At this time, we do not have a firearms license, since we don’t sell firearms. That may change in the future. With that said, the SafeShoot show is May 1 and 2, and we will be there. Please stop by and introduce yourself.

      Hope this helps
